About

Sylvan Gallery represents some of the finest contemporary artists from the New England states. Many of the artists working in oil, watercolor, or acrylic have been exhibiting for over 30 years and have won significant national awards. The common thread among all the artists is their high degree of technical skill and craftsmanship, and their passion to create their own unique visions of the natural beauty that surrounds us.

Philosophy

Art has a meaningful impact on how you experience the space around you. Our greatest reward is uniting a work produced by an artist using skill and imagination to a serious collector or that first time purchaser who has chosen the piece because it is appealing or beautiful to them. What a difference to our well-being when we shape the space around us with objects that draw us in and bring a sense of peace, balance or discovery to our life.

Location

After eleven years on the shoreline of Connecticut, in May of 2012, Sylvan Gallery moved to the historic village of Wiscasset, approximately 45 miles north of Portland on Route 1. Located on the Sheepscot River, the village is a destination for art and antique collectors alike.

Gallery site updates

This site will be continually updated as new works come in weekly from the artists. New England landscapes, local seascapes, still life, figurative, and marines are represented throughout the year in the gallery’s exhibits.

Director, Ann Scanlan

Ann Scanlan graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and followed up her studies at The Art Students League in NYC, studying eight years with the distinguished realist artist Frank Mason. She fulfilled a lifelong dream when she relocated the gallery to the midcoast of Maine in 2012 - a place that has always inspired her and has been the focus of many family reunions.  In addition to representing a talented group of artists, she is also a painter and her work is represented in private collections throughout the country.

I invite you to visit us often! There is nothing better than introducing collectors, and those who love artwork, to the quality work of these artists. I’m pleased that the comment I’ve heard most often from people visiting for the first time or after many times is that they are impressed at the consistent high quality of artwork that is shown in the gallery.

Wishing you a wonderful visit! Director, Ann Scanlan
