Sylvan Gallery welcomes back artist Paul Batch for a special exhibit featuring his most recent landscape paintings, with many focusing on the Maine coastline and marsh. The public is
invited to an opening reception to meet the artist on Thursday, June 29, from 5 - 8 p.m., coinciding with the evening of the Wiscasset Art Walk. The exhibition will continue through July 30. In conjunction, the gallery will also be displaying work from its regular roster of contemporary fine artists.
Years of direct observation of nature's transitory effects have lent Paul an understanding in capturing the essence of the light at various times of day and weather conditions. He brings the colors of a sunrise or sunset to life on his canvas, and much like the nineteenth-century artist George Inness, Paul emphasizes atmospheric effects over naturalistic detail. Paul usually focuses on a single motif and everything else in the painting is subordinate to it.
Paul conducts monthly zoom painting demonstrations running an hour or longer, designed for beginner and intermediate painters to learn more techniques and become more confident with their painting. Narrated throughout by Paul, he always discusses the palette that he uses to capture his subject matter, brush sizes, mediums, and the design of the composition. With almost 40 demonstrations available for replay, topics have included: Painting Waves at Sunset, Painting Reflections, Values and Depth, Composing from Multiple Reference and Painting Sunlit Grasses. Paul is also available for online mentorship. For more information: www.paulbatchpainting
